WHAT THE DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION
ACT MEANS TO YOU
The Act applies to almost all service providers, whether
their services are free or paid for. That means virtually
every company or organisation that provides a service
to the public or a section of the public.
Obvious examples include shops, restaurants, entertainment
venues, leisure centres, libraries, solicitors, doctors
and churches. Less obvious examples include council
and government buildings, petrol stations, police stations
and educational establishments.
As a service provider, you now have to think about whether
the effort, inconvenience, discomfort and loss of dignity
for disabled people using your service would be considered
reasonable by other people if they had to endure similar
difficulties.
Better still, you can bring in experts like DDA Services to do the thinking for you and help you take
any appropriate action required.
